Can WeLoveCorvallis.com Help?
October 5, 2009 3 Comments
In a post I candidly titled Why Do I Give a $h!t About WIN? I share my feelings of fear, helplessness, and frustration which motivate my support of the Willamette Innovator’s Network. Those same feelings drive my involvement and define my objectives with WeLoveCorvallis.com.
Do you share any of these sentiments?
- The economy sucks. I need each others help.
- I want inclusive conversations. Not special events to make me feel better.
- When people with shared goals connect, good things happen.
If any of that strikes a chord with you, either positively or negatively, please share your thoughts. Can WeLoveCorvallis.com become at least one way for us to make these things happen?
Community, Loyan Roylance
Look, there’s a lot of well-intentioned, otherwise engaged and thoughtful people that are concerned about where we’re going as a community and what our outlook is. But they’re tired of the drama,(burnt out) the consensus building to-a-fault, and the seemingly constant political maneuvering.
I’m with you, as earnest non-politicos begin to connect and engage in thoughtful, sometimes heated, but always candid conversation, that trust will take root, and productive actions and movements will follow. Good things will happen. Necessary risk will be taken.
This feels timely. Other people will join us in this.
I read this quote by Margaret Thatcher today regarding consensus: “To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects.”
It is good to read Loyan but even Margaret Thatcher can get off-track with some of her thoughts IMHO!
I like collaboration and consensus building and without it we are NOT likely to move issues or positions forward with sufficient support to sway the majority. It is real easy to take short cuts but when I do, I usually do not achieve the lasting type of results that are required. At least that has been my experience.
Yes, I do love Corvallis and enjoy working with those involved in economic development.
