Tell Me You Love It: An Excitable Attorney
October 24, 2009 1 Comment
I love doing business with people that love their business. Like the personal injury attorney that salivates when I tell him about a client who got hit by a car crossing a street in Portland. True story. (with saliva added for emphasis)
John Dezzani is a friend of mine. He’s an attorney at Jeanne Smith and Associates here in town. I served on a local non-profit board with him a few years ago, but last year got to be in Leadership Corvallis with him for 10 months. What a treat.
I sat next to John on the bus one of the days and shared the above story with him. I explained the settlement that the other insurance company was offering, and asked what he thought. His eyes lit up, he shifted forward in his seat, rubbed his hands together. The guy was visually excited.
He then went on to ask me a string of followup questions, and had a host of similar stories of similar experiences with other clients. Bottom line: who do you think I’ll want to refer next time I have a client who asks for a personal injury attorney? If I’m wrongfully injured, I want the attorney that can’t wait to type the letter, is chomping at the bit to fight in court, I want the excited guy in my corner.
We need more of this in our Corvallis small business community. You can’t fake this stuff.
Do you have another example of a great business or professional here in Corvallis? Please share.
My favorite coffee shop in Corvallis is Red Horse Coffee (www.redhorsecoffee.com, 310 SW 3rd St). Besides the wonderful coffee, the service is amazing. The owner, John Howe, is passionate and excited about coffee and he makes an effort to not only learn what your regular drink is but he learns who you are. He doesn’t view people as customers, he views them as friends. It feels like the old tv show “Cheers”. When you walk in the staff light up and yell your name. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.
