Corvallis Social Media Brigade
I don’t need to read. I’m ready to go!
Take me to the #CorvSMB missions folder now.

bri·gade [bri-geyd] – noun
A group of individuals organized for a particular purpose: a fire brigade; a rescue brigade.
What is the Corvallis Social Media Brigade?
The Brigade is an independent, grass roots movement with the simple but important mission of promoting everything great about Corvallis, our home. This includes all the unique aspects of Corvallis, where we live, work, play, learn and something we all seek for our families and neighbors… prosper.
Who is behind the Brigade?
A lot of motivated individuals are already acting as public champions for Corvallis in a wide variety of ways. Perhaps without even realizing it, they are behind the Brigade.
Why?
A few individuals got together and came up with the Brigade concept. Where it leads is still to be seen. The idea (as it is in its infancy) is to help, acknowledge and reward people for creatively promoting Corvallis. And in this way motivate or even inspire people to do more of it.
What is the Brigade all about?
A critical part of the idea is that ANYONE can easily, freely and creatively contribute in the manner they are compelled to, and yet at the same time in collaboration with others. That is how social media fits in. Being a champion for Corvallis shouldn’t require specific job, schedule, age, position or funding. Anyone with motivation and an internet connection can be a champion with the Brigade.
How can you join the Brigade?
Everyone is invited to join the Brigade simply by participating in our ongoing Brigade missions. The Brigade is making it a priority to find and recruit existing champions with exceptional motivation, skills and interests.
How do I learn more?
There really isn’t to much more to know right now. The Brigade is spontaneous, informal and organic by nature. New events and activities will be listed on this site and others. For the moment the best way to stay connected with the Brigade and its members is to track the hashtag #corvsmb on Twitter and other social networks.

I am interested in your movement and will began to follow it. I think you should try to lose the “flash mob” name. Some see it as a negative. Flash mobs do good, bad, and funny things. The article does help in getting your group noticed, that is what brought me here. I guess I am trying to grasp what the group really is about. Promoting local services? Corvallis? or Public meeting places? Also this did seem to go smoothly for all parties involved, but what if? Maybe you should give the company heads up and not test there ability to handle an unexpected crowds. It could give them a black eye for something they had no control over.
Corvallis does need a Social Media Brigade. I am having trouble finding local media about our great town. I follow a lot of pdx media about food and entertainment, but I am having trouble doing the same for my town.

Only speaking for myself, I would not seek to attend something called a flash mob. The connotation there, for me, is one of attention-getting performance & that’s just not my thing. That’s not to say that this isn’t a fun and worthwhile activity, though.
Thought: why not just call it a carrotmob, if that’s what it is?
I agree with cvoTodd, it might be a good thing in the future to give the business a heads-up.
I don’t agree with the sheep/herd comments made on the GT site & elsewhere.
